The Centru district court ordered confiscating all the copies of the brochure “Know your Candidate!” following an application filed by the Communists Party (PCRM) against the Civic Initiative for a Clean Parliament. The party claimed its honor, dignity and professional reputation has been damaged.
In a communique, the PCRM condemns the denigrating campaign launched against it by the public associations that form part of the Civic Initiative for a Clean Parliament. It says that this project is aimed at discrediting at any price the most powerful party in Moldova.
Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, the head of the Independent Press Association (API) Petru Macovei said that the Communists Party followed the example of Our Moldova Alliance's candidate Alexandru Oleinic and the Democratic Party and sued the Civic Initiative for a Clean Parliament. The candidates of the Liberal Party said they will do the same.
Petru Macovei said that these parties' actions do nothing but hinder the people's access to information that inconveniences the politicians. They no more respect the democratic norms and the freedom of expression. They only want to enter Parliament, said the API head.
In a statement issued by the Civic Initiative for a Clean Parliament, the seven NGOs that founded it express their concern about the disproportionate actions and attacks by politicians and political parties on civil society following the publication of the list of candidates without moral integrity.
The Initiative considers the actions taken by the AMN candidate Alexandru Oleinic, the Democratic Party and the Communists Party represent an attack on democracy as they deprived the people of the right to be informed about those who want to hold public posts by demanding banning the distribution of the brochure “Know your Candidate!”. Their actions violated the people's right to a conscious vote, affecting the free and fair character of the elections, says the statement.
The Black List published by the Civic Initiative for a Clean Parliament includes 22 candidates of the Communists Party, three of the Liberal Democratic Party, by two of the Democratic Party and the Liberal Party, and one of the Our Moldova Alliance.
