The Communists Party (PCRM) will not back the Liberal Democratic Party's proposal to shorten the election campaign from 60 to 30 days, said the party's leader Vladimir Voronin, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
The Communist leader said an election campaign cannot last for only 30 days. The parties deal with organizational issues and agree the platforms during about two weeks. The meetings with voters are held afterward. “These lads don't know how to govern and want to wash their hands by curtailing the election campaign. They are afraid to enter the campaign in the cold period, when the voters will receive the first bills calculated according to the higher gas charges,” Voronin said.
The proposal to shorten the election campaign was approved by the Government and is to be examined in Parliament.
The Liberal-Democrats submitted the initiative shortly after the legislative body lengthened the election campaign for the early elections from 45 to 60 days, as in the case of ordinary elections. Earlier, this proposal was rejected by the other member parties of the Alliance for European Integration. They said they will not amend the electoral legislation until elections.
