The Communist faction on the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) accuses the councilors representing the parties of the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) of blocking the work of the Council. In a news conference on Tuesday, the faction’s head Boris Golovin said these actions are aimed at covering the illegal businesses of the AEI councilors, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The CMC’s activity is practically blocked. The factions of the AEI take steps in order to diminish our victory. This goal was also pursued on July 7, when there were passed amendments to the law on the local public administration, whereby the post of CMC chairman was removed. They understand that their businesses based on corruption, bribery and illegal management schemes are in danger and thus boycott the CMC,” said Boris Golovin. He also said that Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca also boycotts the meetings of the Council. “We hold a majority of seats on the Council and have the right to hold meetings. But the mayor considers that this is illegal and challenges our actions in court. The mayor came only to one of the four meetings we tried to convene, but with a delay of 30 minutes. He made a political statement and left. He ordered the CMC secretary not to attend the meetings as well. The secretary was on leave and now got sick. It happens at the mayor’s instructions,” said Boris Golovin. He stressed that a new meeting of the CMC will be called on October 20 to constitute the specialized commissions. After the elections, the Communist faction has organized four meetings, but they did not take place because a quorum was not present. The AEI councilors argue they do not come to the meetings because the Communist faction wants to head six of the seven permanent commissions and to name all the deputy mayors. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, the press office of the Chisinau City Hall said the statements of the Communist faction are groundless. “On October 17, the mayor general instructed the subdivisions to present the list of projects for being registered with the secretariat so that they can be examined at the forthcoming meeting of the CMC. Today the mayor asked convoking the municipal factions in order to discuss the agenda of the Council’s meeting that could take place this week,” said the press office’s head Vadim Branzaniuc.
