The employees of the state-owned company Moldova’s Railways, in a meeting with Prime Minister Ion Chicu at the Basarabeasca railway terminal, complained that they received the salaries for the last two months only now. The Premier noted the administration is fully responsible for the payment of salaries in time, noting the nonpayment of salaries is inadmissible, IPN reports, with reference to the Government’s press service.
At the Basarabeasca railway terminal, Premier Chicu inquired about the salary payment situation and the administration’s plans for overcoming the economic and financial difficulties faced by the company. The administration of the Basarabeasca local office informed the Premier about the steps taken to remedy the situation and the plans to modernize the infrastructure so as to enhance competitiveness of railway transport in Moldova.
“It’s good that the new managers found methods to pay the overdue salaries. The nonpayment of salaries should be avoided as the people should not suffer because of the bad management,” stated Ion Chicu.
He noted that because of the nonperforming economy, Moldova turned into a donor of intelligent and efficient labor force. The Government’s action plan for 2020-2023 is aimed at modernizing the economy and at stimulating investments in the country’s industrialization.
Moldova’s Railways has 52 local offices with over 7,000 employees. About 65,000 tonnes of goods were exported and approximately 60,000 tonnes were imported last year through the Basarabeasca local office. This office employs 1,415 persons. The overdue salaries of these came to about 13 million lei.
