Pay TV revenues go up

The revenues from pay TV services provided through IP TV networks continued to increase during the first nine months of 2016 amid the decline in the volume of cable TV services. The number of subscribers to the given services rose by about 7,000 (+10%) to 75,800, while the revenues from these services grew by 5.5 million lei or 13.5% compared with the corresponding period last year, to 46.5m lei, IPN reports.

The national ICT regulator ANRCETI said the number of subscribers to cable TV services decreased by 11,100 (-5.4%) to about 195,300, while the sales of these services fell by 1.1 million lei to 69.7 million lei.

Following the tendencies seen on the two market segments, the cumulative number of subscribers to pay TV services diminished by 4,200 (-1.5%) to 271,100. The total sales of pay TV services increased by 4.4 million lei (+4%) to 116.2 million lei. The average monthly revenue per user of the pay TV service operators was 47.6 lei.

Some 72.1% of the total number of subscribers used TV services through cable TV networks, while 27.9% through IP TV networks. Of all the subscribers, 58% received the TV signal in analog format, while 42% in digital format.

The largest pay TV service operators in the period had the following market shares by turnover: SA “Moldtelecom” – 29.6%, SRL “Sun Communications” – 26.2%, while SRL “TV BOX” – 10.2%. The cumulative market share of the other 83 providers was of 34%.
