Pavement at Sfatul Tarii and Columna junction caved in because of pipe leak

The accident with the pavement that caved in at the junction of the streets Sfatul Tarii and Columna in Chisinau on Friday evening was caused by a pipe failure, the water utility Apa-Canal said in a press. This is despite the fact that the water piping in the area was replaced recently. The utility says the private contractor that did the repair is to blame, and it should assume all responsibility and cover all costs. The pipe hasn't been yet transferred to Apa-Canal Chisinau, meaning the utility cannot be held liable. On Friday, a woman together with her 2-year-old daughter was trapped in her car after the vehicle fell into a 2 meters deep hole formed after the pavement caved in. Earlier this month, another driver got his car into a hole on Cojocarilor Street in a similar incident.
