Financial resources for establishing 150 polling places abroad, not 125, were allocated from the state budget for this February’s elections, said the programs director of Promo-LEX Association Pavel Postică. According to him, the Government, without providing any explanations, decided to establish only 125 polling places outside Moldova, IPN reports.

Pavel Postică said the Government provided no informative note and this is bad. “There is no clarity as to the criteria used to decide the X number of polling places in country Y and vice versa,” Pavel Postică stated in the talk show “Country” on Vocea Basarabieii TV channel.

The programs director of Promo-LEX said the Association conducted an analysis and tried to propose a very clear mathematic, neural and apolitical mechanism for deciding the number of polling places. “Our analysis that was based on publicly available information showed that about 30 polling places should have been established in constituency No. 49 Russia, CIS and Asia, 90 polling places in Europe and 14-15 polling places in the U.S. and Canada,” stated Pavel Postică.

Political commentator Anatol Țăranu said the law is applied selectively towards the participants in the elections. He referred first of all to the Shor Party. He noted the mixed electoral system is favorable to the Democratic Party. “The ruling party uses its advantage of governing force and the fact that it controls Parliament to adjust the legislation to the own interests in the upcoming elections,” stated Anatol Țăranu.

The analyst noted the political opposition should have found a remedy to counteract this advantage. The opposition could have done this by combining efforts and announcing a common list.
