The GUAM Organization for Democracy and Economic Development offers high-level interaction and dialogue facilitation opportunities between Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and the Republic of Moldova, stated Prime Minister Pavel Filip. In a meeting of the heads of government of GUAM in Kyiv, the Premier underlined the importance of developing multilateral cooperation in a move to consolidate democracy and ensure economic development and security in the region, IPN reports.

As to the conflicts existing on the territory of the GUAM member states, Pavel Filip said these should be resolved by political and diplomatic dialogue, by observing the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the states.

In the summit, the Moldovan Prime Minister and his counterparts from the other GUAM member states signed two protocols – concerning the actions to create the Free Exchange Zone and concerning the facilitation of customs procedures between the four states. The sides conferred on GUAM’s partnership with the U.S. and Japan and with regional organizations, such as the Visegrad group.

The consultative forum GUAM was founded in October 1997. GUAM promotes the development of cooperation between the four states in order to strengthen stability and security in Europe.
