The rumors that the current leader of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) Pavel Filip paid a visit to the United States where he had a meeting with Vladimir Plahotniuc were confirmed. Pavel Filip said he visited the U.S. at the start of last July and the meeting was held by common consent, IPN reports.

“I don’t know why they make a sensation of this. I stated not only once that I communicated with Vladimir Plahotniuc up to the moment he vacated the seat. It’s true and I met him once. We had to clarify particular things. We had a meeting in the United States         of America, probably at the start of last July. I needed to get some things clear for me. We were to prepare the congress of the PDM and mates advised me to run for president of the party. I wanted to know if he intended to become involved and to further influence things inside the PDM as I had to decide how to act,” Pavel Filip stated in the program “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel.

The politician said that nothing unordinary happened in that meeting.

“It was an ordinary meeting. We discussed the causes and consequences. I wanted to make sure that he will no longer get involved and that he will tender his resignation. We agreed this then. He told me he had no interests in politics anymore and will try to arrange things independently without exerting influence on the Democratic Party. Later, I ascertained that the discussion wasn’t really sincere,” stated Pavel Filip.

He noted that while in the U.S., he also had other meetings and the visit was made not only for meeting with Vladimir Plahotniuc alone.
