Prime Minister Pavel Filip said he will make unannounced visits to several border crossing points in order to find out how the current problems can be solved and how the functioning of the crossing points can be improved. The announcement was made after the first unannounced visit at the Leuseni border crossing on December 27.

Filip wanted to find out how things are going at the border crossing during the winter holidays, when the flow of people leaving and entering the country increases significantly, IPN learned from a press release of the government.

The official spoke with workers of the Customs Service, of the Border Police and with people waiting to cross the border. He inquired about their satisfaction with the border officials’ attitude and about the latter’s most frequent problems and suggested solutions.

The issues that came up most frequently concerned improper actions of the border officials, the need to optimize control procedures, software issues, insufficient personnel and others. Should these shortcomings be addressed, crossing the border would be much faster and queues would be shorter.

The PM stressed that, besides organizational and managerial things, the customs and border officers’ attitude is equally important. They must behave in a civilized manner and with respect towards the people who cross the border.
