Pavel Filip will no longer lead the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM). In a press briefing on October 16, he said that he leaves the party in a new head office and with a budget and costs planned until 2023, with functional staff that is ready to work, IPN reports.
“I remain convinced that the Democratic Party has the most competent and proficient people and a solid network of local organizations. I’m sure that if PDM had been in power now, it would have significantly contributed to easier solving the current serious crisis (energy, prices and tariffs, fear and uncertainty). I’m convinced that Moldova needs competent people, that PDM still has what to offer to our country and that it has the right to rebuild itself and return forcefully with another administration,” stated Pavel Filip.
He also said that he leaves the PDM’s administration reconciled. “As Theodore Roosevelt said, “do what you can, with what you’ve got, where you are”. This is what we did while in the Government. We did what we could with the available resources in those circumstances. We increased the salaries and pensions, built roads and kindergartens, offered the young people the First House and examined the people all over the country free of charge within the project “A Doctor for You”. We laid the basis for the digitization of the economy when we simplified the obtaining of documents by introducing a one-stop shop at the Public Services Agency, launched virtual IT parks and worked out the strategy “Digital Moldova 2020”,” stated the ex-Premier, noting that he is proud the most of the accomplishments in the IT sector as the IT exports today outstrip the traditional exports.
Pavel Filip thanked his party mates who remained part of PDM despite all the pressure, threats and promises of sacks of money. “I thank you for the trust you put in me and for what I have learned near you, dear mates. You know that I wanted to announce this decision immediately after the elections, but I wanted to leave at peace with myself, knowing that I leave the party in a new head office, with a budget and costs planned until 2023, with functional staff that is ready to work,” stated Pavel Filip.
The Executive Bureau of PDM today decided that a meeting of the party’s National Political Council will be held on October 30. Until then, Monica Babuc will manage the party as a caretaker leader.
Pavel Filip served as Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova in 2016-2019 and later as an MP and president of PDM. In the snap parliamentary elections of July 2021, the Democratic Party polled 1.81% of the vote.
