The declaring by the European Union of the Moldovan seed control and certification system as equivalent to that of the EU enables to supply seeds to the European market, Prime Minister Pavel Filip said in a news conference held after a meeting with the European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Vytenis Andriukaitis in Chisinau in the evening of July 5, IPN reports.

“On June 9, the EU declared that the national seed control and certification system is equivalent to the EU’s. This decision is one more gate opened to Europe, which will enable the producers in the field to sell goods on the EU market. After the coordination procedures are performed with all the EU member states, which I hope will not last long, the Republic of Moldova will be included in the list of third countries that can export seeds to the EU. As regards the export of products of animal origin, we should make progress as regards lab accreditation” stated Pavel Filip.

European Commissioner Vytenis Andriukaitis said the Republic of Moldova remains an important partner of the EU within the European neighborhood policy and the Eastern Partnership. He encouraged the Moldovan authorities to implement the EU legislation on animal health and welfare.

“I know that all these efforts will continue because animal health and welfare are very close to people. It is important to be vigilant, to address this situation with responsibility and to take any measure to ensure animal health, to perform all the necessary procedures at the border. I would like to hear that the priorities in the field of food safety will be firm and that the Government will mobilize resources,” stated Vytenis Andriukaitis.

European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Vytenis Andriukaitis is paying an official visit to the Republic a Moldova during July 5-6. He will have meetings with Minister of Health Ruxanda Glavan, one of the deputy ministers of agriculture and with members of the Parliament’s commissions on agriculture and food industry and on social protection, health and family.
