A first condition imposed by the Democratic Party (PDM) for forming the future government coalition with the Party of Socialists (PSRM) is to be offered the post of minister of foreign affairs and European integration. According to the Democratic leader Pavel Filip, his party wants to be in charge of this area so as to bring to an end the discussions about the country’s federalization and deviation from the European course, IPN reports.
“I believe this is one of our first conditions as, for us, it is important to say that the Republic of Moldova does not slip towards one direction only when we speak about a balanced foreign policy, but we should ultimately make this path of European integration of the Republic of Moldova irreversible,” Pavel Filip stated in the talk show “In Depth” on Pro TV Chisinau channel.
In the negotiations with the PSRM, the PDM will also ask that the Ministry of Economy should be among its portfolios.
“We launched many important projects and I refer here to the country’s energy security. We are those who started to build the gas pipeline that interconnects Moldova’s system with the European natural gas system. Regrettably, this project has remained stagnant in the recent period, but is important for Moldova’s energy security. I also refer to the interconnection of the electric power systems that is also important for us,” stated Pavel Filip.
Besides the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Economy, the PDM will also claim the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research.
“From my viewpoint, education is a very important area as it represents one of the three main pillars on which a state can be built. We have political interference here as regards the spoken language, the history of Romanians and many others. These instruments would ensure that we have a status quo and will not intervene in subjects that split society and generate a lot of discussions in society,” stated the Democratic leader.
As regards the fourth ministry that the PDM would like to control, Pavel Filip avoided providing an exact answer, but said that this is related to state security.
“It could be the defense. Remember all those discussions on participation in drills, the fruitful cooperation with NATO, the office we opened in Moldova and many others,” stated the Democratic heavyweight.
He noted the PDM will not form a government coalition with the PSRM until it is not sure that the party he manages will be able to implement the views it shares.
