The president of the Democratic Party of Moldova Pavel Filip said the massive vote given by the citizens to the president of the Party of Action and Solidarity Maia Sandu is a signal for the political class in the Republic of Moldova. This way, according to him, the citizens want a change at governmental level, IPN reports.

“We are now after the presidential elections. The incumbent hasn’t yet left and the President-elect hasn’t yet taken up her duties. But we should learn lessons from what has happened. I already said that I think the citizens voted not only for a change in the presidential administration because the Republic of Moldova is a parliamentary country and we know that the President does not have broad powers. A signal was given by this vote of the citizens and we, those from the Democratic Party, understood well this signal – that the people want a change at governmental level,” Pavel Filip stated in the program “Emphasis on Today” on TVR Moldova channel.

The Democratic leader noted the people’s vote should be treated with overall responsibility.

“I consider we are going through a difficult period. On the one hand, we saw the message or the signal that the current Government must be changed. On the other hand, what are the methods for doing this? Under the legal norms, the Government should resign or a motion of no confidence should be adopted. But we must think what will happen at the next stage. If the Government leaves, what will we do next?,” stated Pavel Filip.

He noted that the MPs can speak about snap parliamentary elections only if a new Government is formed and this has an anti-crisis plan as the country cannot be left in a chaos.

Earlier this month, Pavel Filip said that after two years of political instability, after the pandemic, economic crisis and severe drought, the snap parliamentary elections would be a catastrophe for the country.
