The Republic of Moldova is interested in learning from the positive experience of Lithuania in doing reforms, Prime Minister Pavel Filip stated in a meeting with the Lithuanian Premier Saulius Skvernelis, who is paying a visit to Moldova during April 26-27, IPN reports, with reference to the Government’s press service.

“The Cabinet of Lithuania followed a reform agenda that is similar to our agenda. They did reforms in education, healthcare, pension system, fiscal system and public administration,” stated Pavel Filip. He noted that Lithuania will remain Moldova’s ally and friend in the European integration process and will learn from Lithuania’s successful experience in this regard.

Pavel Filip underlined the constructive and friendship relations existing between the two states and thanked his counterpart for their support and solidarity. “The path to the EU is long and difficult, but no matter how hard this road is, it is easier to cover it when you feel the support and shoulder of the friends near. The Republic of Lithuania is a real friend for the Republic of Moldova,” he stated.

The Moldovan Premier reminded that Moldova was the first state that recognized Lithuania’s independence and said he would like Lithuania to be the first that will congratulate Moldova when the country becomes an EU member

For his part, Saulius Skvernelis said he wishes Moldova to achieve its European aspirations, while Lithuania will remain Moldova’s friend and ally on this path. He welcomed the progress made in implementing the Moldova -EU Association Agreement, including the rise in Moldova’s exports to the European market.
