The Republic of Moldova copes financially and the budget covers the costs, but the obtaining of the EU macro-financial assistance is a matter of principle for the Government as this will be a sign of support for Moldova’s orientation from the EU, Prime Minister Pavel Filip stated in a TV program on TV Prime. According to him, this attitude can be described as an ambition by which they want to show that they managed to obtain a program with the IMF and to unblock the relations with the World Bank and will also manage to further ensure constructive and pragmatic relations with the European Union, IPN reports.

The Premier noted that the first installment of the EU macro-financial assistance is expected to reach Moldova at the end of June or in July at the latest. “An assessment mission for the second installment already will come to Moldova in July,” he stated. According to him, all the conditions imposed for disbursing the first installment have been implemented, but room for interpreting two of the conditions appeared following the political disputes in Chisinau and Brussels – progress made in constituting the National Integrity Authority and provision of financing to this institution.

Referring to the recent meeting of the Moldova – EU Association Council, the Premier said this was the most positive one of the three similar meetings in which he took part. In this the Council underlined the results and progress made in implementing the Association Agreement.

“We surely must make more effort to fight corruption and to reform justice, even if we advanced. We are also not satisfied with the way in which the justice system works now. At the same time, we must admit that there are positive elements. This year we tried to lay emphasis mainly on justice, on the so-called small reform of the justice sector, as we set short-term objectives that should be achieved by this yearend and I’m sure we will succeed as things started to move on,” stated the Premier.

An agreement signed by the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the European Union last year envisions the provision of €100 million in macro-financial assistance, €40 million of which in the form of a grant. The money is to be disbursed in three installments if 28 conditions are met – 10 for the first installment, 10 for the second and 8 for the last one.
