The interconnection between the electricity systems of Moldova and Romania will be realized in two-three years, Prime Minister Pavel Filip stated in the talk show “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel.

“We aim to install a Back to Back station because our systems are different – synchronous and asynchronous. Therefore, we need this station that costs a lot. We speak about one interconnection – the Isaccea-Vulcănești-Chisinau project – and we already raised the money for the purpose from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the World Bank and the European Investment Bank”, the Premier was quoted by IPN as saying.

According to him, the contracts for the construction of the stations are to be signed so that the project is launched. “But here we also discuss with the colleagues from Romania. We would like to follow the same path as the one we followed in the case of the gas pipeline (e.n. Iași-Ungheni gas pipeline). It depends on the will of those from “Transelectrica” (e.n. National Power Grid Company of Romania). We are ready to concede those networks  in the Republic of Moldova that are linked to this interconnect,” stated Pavel Filip.

According to the Government, the total cost of the interconnection project is €270 million. The building of the Back to Back station in Vulcănești will be co-financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the European Investment Bank and the European Union, while the World Bank will finance the extension of the station in Vulcănești, the modernization of the station in Chisinau and the construction of the 400 kV Vulcănești-Chisinau overhead transmission line by providing a loan.
