Prime Minister Pavel Filip said that on April 21 he will issue an invitation to the International Monetary Fund concerning the resumption of negotiations. According to him, an IMF mission will come to Chisinau for negotiations in June at the latest. The statements were made in a meeting with representatives of the public authorities of Glodeni district, IPN reports.
According to the Government’s press service, the Premier noted that regaining the development partners’ confidence and unblocking the external assistance are an important objective. The Government managed to implement a part of the overdue measures deriving from the Association Agreement with the EU and to resume the discussions with the IMF. “If the negotiations with the IMF are opened, we will unlock the loan promised by Bucharest and the financing on the part of the EU,” he stated.
At end-February, a team of experts of the International Monetary Fund had been in Moldova on a working visit. In the discussions with the Moldovan authorities, these laid emphasis on the analysis of the recent economic developments and the policies pursued to maintain macroeconomic stability and to improve governance in the financial sector. The IMF experts said then that the prospects are not at all simple and competent management in the economy is needed to cope with the challenges.
