“The Government of the Republic of Moldova has taken all the necessary measures to ensure a free, transparent and equitable electoral process based on all the democratic norms,” Prime Minister Pavel Filip stated in a meeting with a mission of international experts of the National Democratic Institute (NDI) who came to Moldova, IPN reports, quoting the Government’s press service.

According to the Premier, the Government approved the allocation of the financial resources needed to organize the elections to the Central Election Commission. Also, to ensure greater transparency in the electoral process, it was decided to install surveillance cameras in polling places. To reduce the margin of interpretation of the election results by judges, the “silence day” was annulled  and the restriction to campaign within 100 meters of polling places was excluded.

The interlocutors underlined the necessity of opening a sufficient number of polling places abroad. The online registration for citizens from the diaspora was instituted so as to know where and how many polling places to establish.

The Premier reaffirmed the necessity of having a larger number of national and international observers at the parliamentary elections of February 24, 2019. He encouraged the NDI experts to return to Chisinau on an observation mission both during the election campaign and on the election day.
