The implementation of the police reform and possibilities of learning from the good practices of Lithuania and the EU were discussed by Prime Minister Pavel Filip and the Lithuanian Minister of the Interior Tomas Zilinskas in a meeting. The officials also conferred on the maintaining of public order and the measures that need to be taken to increase the people’s confidence in the police, IPN reports.

The Lithuanian minister said that an intergovernmental agreement of cooperation and mutual assistance in preventing and responding to emergencies was signed within his visit to Chisinau. Negotiations are held on other bilateral cooperation projects. “We are ready to offer you assistance and to exchange experience in the areas of common interest. We already discussed with the minister of the interior of Moldova and agreed a number of possibilities of cooperation in the future,” stated Tomas Zilinskas.

The Premier spoke about the Government’s priorities, underlining the importance of cooperating with the Lithuanian authorities. “The integration into the European Union is Moldova’s option. We think this is the best solution for ensuring decent living conditions for the people. Lithuania already covered this path and succeeded. For us, your experience is useful and we are interested in learning from the good practices of the Ministry of the Interior of Lithuania,” stated Pavel Filip.

A delegation of the Ministry of the Interior of Lithuania has been in Moldova on a visit during July 27-30.
