An agreement with the International Monetary Fund means restoration of the foreign partners’ confidence in Moldova and an agenda of assumed reforms, Prime Minister Pavel Filip said in a meeting with the IMF Executive Director Menno Snel in Chisinau on June 1. The Premier reiterated the Government’s determination to sign a new program with the IMF, IPN reports.
According to the Government’s press service, Pavel Filip said the agreement with the IMF is very important for the Republic of Moldova because it will unblock the external financing and will strengthen the relations between Moldova and its development partners. The package of laws aimed at strengthening the independence of the National Bank of Moldova and the National Commission for Financial Markets is being promoted. This will be implemented in parallel with the justice sector reform and with anticorruption and business support measures.
Menno Snel welcomed the reforms done by the government in the banking sector, its efforts to reform justice and the anticorruption measures, voicing hope that these packages of laws will be adopted in the nearest future.
The official noted that the program with the IMF not only ensures access to financial assistance, but also represents a good platform for doing reforms.
