Pavel Filip: “5+2” format is most suitable in Transnistrian conflict settlement

“The “5+2 format is the most suitable one in the promotion of the Transnistrian settlement process. When there is support, results can be achieved. We will be making considerable effort to maintain the positive dynamics,” Prime Minister Pavel Filip stated in a meeting with the President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly George Tsereteli, IPN reports.

According to the Government’s press service, in the meeting Pavel Filip applauded the partners’ contribution and requested the OSCE to more actively become involved in facilitating the disposal of the munitions in Cobasna, which belong to the Russian Federation and pose a threat in the region.

The Premier thanked the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly for the continuous assistance provided to the Republic of Moldova in promoting the dialogue between both sides of the Nistru, integrating the national minorities, reforming the justice sector and strengthening the rule of law. Pavel Filip took stock of the progress made in resolving the Transnistrian dispute by signing a number of protocol decisions, mentioning the ensuring of the proper functioning of Latin script schools on the left side of the Nistru, apostilling of diplomas in Tiraspol, ensuring of access of farmers from Dubăsari district to their farmland and admission of motor vehicles with neutral-design license plates to international traffic.

For his part, the President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly George Tsereteli confirmed the interparliamentary forum’s readiness to continue to support Moldova in its efforts to settle the Transnistrian conflict.

The officials also exchanged opinions on the future parliamentary elections in Moldova. George Tsereteli welcomed the authorities’ firm commitment to organize free, fair and transparent elections by respecting all the international standards. In this regard, the Premier thanked the OSCE for its readiness to monitor the February 24 elections, underlining it is important for the team of observers to show objectivity.
