Ion Caras is likely to manage the national football team of Moldova in the qualifying rounds of EURO 2016 as well. The president of the Moldovan Football Federation Pavel Cebanu said that Ion Caras mustn’t be replaced even if the national squad finished the last but one in the previous preliminaries, IPN reports.
“Ion Caras achieved good results towards the end of the 2014 World Cup preliminaries. He knows the players and I think we must continue in the same formula. We always had the same coach in two qualification campaigns,” Cebanu stated for a TV channel.
Ion Caras’s contract expires on December 31, while the decision whether to extend it or not will be taken by the Moldovan Football Federation’s Executive Committee at yearend. “I want to remain the coach of the national team,” said Caras, who also trained the national squad in 1991-1997.
On November 18, Moldova will play a friendly against Lithuania in Chisinau.
