A patrolling inspector from Balti was sentenced to five years and six months in jail for passive corruption and misuse of power. He was also fined 20,000 lei and banned from working in the internal affairs bodies for a period of five years, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The patrolling inspector was accused of confiscating, at the end of December 2012, the driver’s license of a man for an alleged violation of the traffic rules, without drawing up a report. Afterward, he asked for 1,500 lei from the driver for not holding him accountable and for giving him back the driver’s license.

The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
