At the end of his visit to Moldova, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia said in a press briefing that an open dialogue can become a mechanism for resolving the Transnistrian dispute. He made a call for peace and understanding, IPN reports.
“The faith and the Church that unites both of the banks of the Nistru River will enable to find the political solution to a problem that appeared after the dismemberment of the Soviet Union,” stated the Patriarch.
The head of the Orthodox Church said he was satisfied with the meetings and discussions he had in Moldova. As a result of them, he better understood what problems Moldovan society faces.
Patriarch Kirill came to Moldova on September 7, on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the foundation of the Bishopric of Chisinau. During his visit, the official had meetings with President Nicolae Timofti, Prime Minister Iurie Leanca, Head of Parliament Igor Corman, and former Prime Minister Vlad Filat. He also visited the Capriana Monastery and held a service in front of the Metropolitan Cathedral “Gods’ Birth” in Chisinau.
Afterward, the Patriarch went to Tiraspol, where he met with residents of the region. He also visited the monastery in Chitcani village and the fortress Tighina.
