Besides accommodation infrastructure, the Chisinau City Hall developed a hub of services intended for refugees at the temporary placement center set up at “Patria - Lukoil”. Mothers and children housed by families or who live in rented accommodation go there daily and ask for assistance or for different information. The Ukrainian refugees can have a hot lunch and can benefit from medical assistance there. The municipality warns that the donated food and hygiene products are insufficient, while the assistance announced by the central authorities hasn’t come yet even if all the necessary approaches were made, IPN reports.

“Together with the team, we will continue handing the crisis and offering assistance to Ukrainian refugees at municipal level. I saw that they say there are hundreds of thousands of refugees here. I want to note that there are now several hundred people at the 45 centers we manage and I think the official data disseminated by the state intuitions are absolutely inaccurate. The number of refugees has declined, including of those accommodated at placement centers. By its March 27 decision, the Chisinau Commission for Exceptional Situations ordered to close a number of placement centers,” mayor Ion Ceban stated in the ordinary meeting of officials of municipal services.

The mayor said the refugees are offered legal assistance, logistic assistance for being transported to other countries, employment, food and hygiene products and clothes. Activates are staged for Ukrainian refugee children.

Ion Ceban noted the food parcels are in demand. In partnership with an association, they daily provide by 300-350 warm meals.

“Also, an Italian medical association and our doctors are extending the medical examination services for all the refugees at request. A team of doctors from Israel daily provides assistance there or where it is necessary. Starting with this week, a mobile clinic with Italian doctors and an ambulance will be available at “Patria - Lukoil”,” stated the mayor.

Ion Ceban called on the local authorities to de-bureaucratize the procedure for the mayor’s offices to be able to benefit from assistance in managing the refugee crisis given that the foreign partners offer consistent aid.
