Patients are now able to deny other doctors’ access to personal health data

When seeing a general practitioner, patients are now being proposed to sign an agreement regarding the use of data on their personal health. If they sign it, the medical center has the right to process the patient’s personal data and offer them for analysis to doctors from other medical institutions when they find it necessary, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to Ana Tataru from the press service of the Ministry of Health, the patient has the right to deny his personal data being offered to other doctors. If a doctor breaks this rule, it is considered an illegal action. The doctor must respect the patient’s request regarding the confidentiality of information about his or her health through a bilateral agreement. The administration of medical institutions has the right to decide how the patients’ personal data will be protected, whether it is by coding the results of medical test or other means of ensuring confidentiality. The agreement is developed in accordance with the Law on protection of personal data of July 2011.
