Fathers of newborns who benefitted from paternal leave will be able to get benefit, IPN reports, quoting regulations on the allotment and determination of paternal benefits approved by the Cabinet.
The regulations guarantee the right to paternal benefit, for the care of the newborn, of the father insured in the public social insurance system who is employed based on an individual work contract or is in labor relations based on the administrative act, with domicile or residence in the Republic of Moldova.
Paternal leave is granted during the first 56 days of the birth of the child, for a period of 14 calendar days, based on a written application. The salary earner can benefit from a paternal benefit that will be paid from the state social insurance budget and will be determined and monitored by the National House of Social Insurance.
The salary earners insured in the public social insurance system are entitled to paternal benefit if they have paid social insurance contributions into the state budget during at least three years. Those who have paid contributions during a shorter period must confirm that they paid social insurance contributions during at least nine months in the last 24 months prior to the birth of the child.
Now that the calculation and payment mechanism was approved, the fathers of newborns who benefitted from paternal leave starting with May 27 this year will be able to collect the benefit.
The law on paternal leave was passed by Parliament on May 27, 2016.
