Passenger numbers in buses and trolleybuses more than trebled

The second day into the minibus drivers' strike, the passenger numbers in trolleybuses trebled, quadrupling in some buses, Info-Prim Neo learned from head of the Chisinau Electrical Transport Network (RTEC) Gheorghe Morgoci and the director of the Urban Bus Company Iacob Capcelea. Gheorghe Morgoci said that usually about 200,000 people traveled by trolleybus per day. On Wednesday, the figure rose to over 600,000. He says that the increased passenger flow means increased income for the enterprise. If 600,000 tickets were sold daily, the RTEC would be able to buy 5 buses per year from its own funds. Urban Bus Company director Iacon Capcelea says that the average passenger numbers in buses doubled, but on some routes they quadrupled. During the minibus drivers’ strike, the Municipality supplemented the number of trolleybuses and buses by 20 and 16 units respectively.
