The underground passage at the intersection of Ismail St and Stefan cel Mare si Sfant Blvd in central Chisinau will be open at night as well, IPN reports. The administration of the City Hall ordered to take away the access gates that were closed in the evening.
“The citizens’ safety is the most important thing! I ordered to remove the access gates so that the business entity that still manages the passage is unable to do what it wants,” stated acting mayor general of Chisinau Silvia Radu.
In the municipality of Chisinau, there are 20 pedestrian underground passageways. Twelve of these are managed by business entities. In 2014, the Chisinau Municipal Council leased out 11 pedestrian underground passages for a period of ten years. The lease for one of these expired.
