PAS’s Dumitru Alaiba has introduced a bill that restores a 50% relief on import duties of hybrid vehicles, which was repealed by the previous Parliament in 2020.

“Because we need to promote greener engines, to encourage the purchase of greener cars, which will help reduce air and environmental pollution by reducing the emission of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere”, said the Action and Solidarity lawmaker.

Additionally, the bill seeks to raise import duties for vehicles burning diesel, “the most pollutant type of fuel”.

“We know that diesel engines will no longer be manufactured in the EU after 2025, and their sale will be banned beginning in 2029. If we do not discourage them from now on, these cars will be destined for countries like ours. If we do not act now, the whole of Europe will switch to electricity, while we will continue to pollute”, said Dumitru Alaiba.
