The joining of forces against those who intend to rig the elections is very important as the people’s vote should be defended. The PAS and PPPDA should monitor the electoral process in all the polling stations in the country, MP of the Party of Action and Solidarity Sergiu Litvinenco said in response to the proposal of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” to combine forces so as to ensure free and fair presidential elections, IPN reports.

“The PAS plans to delegate by three persons – members of bureaus, observers and representatives with the right of consultative vote – to monitor all the polling stations. If the PPPDA does the same, the risks of rigging will be definitely diminished,” the MP posted on his Facebook page.

Sergiu Litvinenco noted that the PAS continues to insist on the amendment of the Election Code so as to make sure that the presidential elections are fair. “In this regard, we first of all called on the legal commission for appointments and immunities to come together the next few days so as to prepare the final version of the draft law for being debated in Parliament. It should examine both the proposals of the Venice Commission and the amendments of MPs,” wrote the MP.

He noted that later, at the plenary sitting of Parliament, they could examine the amendments and the bill will be given a second reading. “If the PSRM will continue to disseminate the false information that the electoral legislation cannot be amended given the urgent Common Opinion of the Venice Commission and the OSCE, it will be clear that their plan is to massively rig the elections.”

In a news conference earlier today, PPPDA leader Andrei Năstase said that even if the campaign prior to the presidential elections wasn’t yet officially launched, information about cases of corruption of citizens and use of administrative resources started already to come from different regions of the country. He noted that by such illegalities, manipulations and pressure, the elections can be rigged. “I therefore call on the pro-European and national political forces that accept a correct and free competition to fight at least on a common front so as to defend the vote given by the people,” stated the politician.
