There is evidence of illegal financing and of ties between the Shor Party and the Russian intelligence services, said PAS MP Adrian Băluțel. According to him, the decision to start the procedure for outlawing the Shor Party is opportune and proportional to the illegalities committed by this party. For their part, representatives of the extraparliamentary opposition said the striking of this party off the Register of Parties does not mean that this entity disappears from the political arena of Moldova, IPN reports.

The Cabinet on Wednesday approved the decision to request the Constitutional Court to establish the constitutionality of the Shor Party. According to the minister of justice, the Shor Party aims to discredit the idea of democracy and to mimic people’s support. The party is accused of illegal financing and of undermining of the country’s integrity and independence by promoting the interests of another state.

“We saw the bags full of money. We see more proofs of the ties between the Russian intelligence services and the Shor Party. We saw the Shor Party’s efforts to undermine the sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova, as the statement by the U.S. Department of the Treasury confirmed. This context radically changes the Government’s capacity to act. These proofs cannot be ignored and considered disproportionate to this harsh measure,” Adrian Băluțel stated in the talk show “Secrets of the Power” on JurnalTV channel.

Representatives of the extraparliamentary opposition said the banning of the party led by Ilan Shor can make the fugitive oligarch create another party.

“We will see these persons in another posture, under another name. I think they will not even radically change the name. Instead of the Shor Party they can found the Party of Ilan Shor. If we follow this logical, we should expect Minister Litvinenco to make a similar request with regard to the PSRM as these are half measures if we do not convict criminals definitively and irrevocably. The banning of the party will simply lead to the creation of a new political party,” stated the chairman of the Party of Change Ștefan Gligor.

“This mechanism was reached too late as this party was allowed to assert itself as the main opposition. At a particular stage, this was suitable to the current government as such opposition like the Shor Party is more suitable than authentic, clean opposition. We hope the Constitutional Court will pronounce on the issue swiftly so that we do not dally continuously,” said the chairman of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” Dinu Plîngău.

In the same connection, the ex-chairwoman of the National Liberal Party Vitalia Pavlichenko said there is a Constitutional Court decision saying that a party can be outlawed if it undermines democracy by violent methods.

“A political party cannot be held accountable for the individual conduct of members. The banning of political parties can be justified only if these parties support the use of violence or use violence as a political method for disrupting constitutional democratic order,” said former MP Vitalia Pavlichenko, reading a CC decision.

On Wednesday, fugitive MP Ilan Shor described the launch of the process of outlawing the Shor Party as “the last breath of the government that is in agony”.
