Given that he is a specialist in the field of security, Dorin Recean will center on national security and on the European integration, said PAS MP Lilian Carp. According to him, the Gavrilița Government had to deal with overlapping crises and the implementation of the government program was therefore moved to the second place. In the same connection, historian Octavian Țîcu said the failure of the Gavrilița Government is the failure of President Maia Sandu, which the Presidential Office should assume, IPN reports.

PAS MP Lilian Carp said the replacement of the Government was a necessary step as the security crisis in the region poses threats to Moldova’s security too. The new Cabinet will focus on the preparations for Moldova’s accession to the EU and on maintaining of peace and security.

“The change came in the wake of the security risks witnessed in the region. Dorin Recean is a specialist in security. This is one of the reasons why this change was made as we need to have our security system strengthened. The Gavrilița Government faced different crises and had to deal with them. A new impetus was needed for the Government to center on the implementation of the European integration program,” Lilian Carp stated in the program “Secrets of the Power” on JurnalTV channel.

In the same program, historian Octavian Țîcu said the Gavrilița Government was a weak one and it failed to meet citizens’ expectations. According to the former MP, President Maia Sandu should assume the failures of the Gavrilița Government as she insisted on appointing Natalia Gavrilița as Prime Minister.

“President Mais Sandu assumed responsibility for the Gavrilița Government. Now the Presidential Office should bear responsibility for the failure of this government. The failure of the Gavrilița Government is a direct failure of President Maia Sandu. Natalia Gavrilița’s incompetence was known. We saw her capacities, also when she served as a minister on the Sandu Government. It was very clear that this Government was weak, but the situation suited Maia Sandu for the reason that the Prime Minister was suitable for her. Dorin Recean is another reality. We will see how the relations between the Prime Minister and the President evolve,” stated Octavian Țîcu.

“I think everyone expects that a large part of the ministers will remain. I would not describe the work of the Gavrilița Government as a failure as, if we look at what was done, we will see a lot of things, first of all the very big progress in the relationship with the European Union. Particular tiredness had been discussed since last November-December, but they waited for winter to pass to replace the Government,” said Romanian political commentator Sorin Ioniță.

Natalia Gavrilița resigned as Prime Minister on February 10. Several hours later, President Maia Sandu signed a decree by which she designate Dorin Recean for premiership.
