The Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) on August 26 stages a demonstration under the slogan “Good people defend their Independence!” near the monument to ruler Stephan the Great and Holy, starting at 7pm. Through a posting on Facebook, the PAS leader Maia Sandu urged all those who protested on August 26, 2018 and not only to come to the event to remember the courage and resistance of the good people of this country, IPN reports.

According to the politician, two years ago on August 26, 2018, the Great National Assembly Square was full of good people who opposed the injustice and stealing and owing to them a dictator could be driven away. “During all times, when the good people combine forces, they get unlimited power. Owing to the resistance and power of these people, owing to the strength and courage of those people of 1989 and to the fact that the good people continued to defend their rights and dignity, we still have hope in the Republic of Moldova,” wrote Maia Sandu.

She noted that a cluster of people on August 26, 2018 remained to protest at night too so as to celebrate together Independence Day. In the morning, they were forced to leave on the instruction of the then chief of Dodon, Plahotniuc.

“Elderly people and young people were dragged on asphalt for Dodon to satisfy his whims of master. He wanted to be the master of the monument to Stephan the Great and Holy, of the Independence Day, of the country and its people. We opposed. The people are free and the Independence Day belongs to all the people,” stated the PAS leader.

A number of participants in the event called the General Assembly of Citizens of August 26, 2018 decided to continue the protest started on August 26 on the night of August 27 so as to lay flowers at the monument to Stephan the Great and Holy in the morning. The police evacuated the protesters by force so that the planned festivities could take place.
