The Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) remains firm on its position that snap parliamentary elections should be held this year. According to the parliamentary group of the PAS, the people want snap elections and the politicians in the election campaign and immediately after the presidential elections promised that such elections will be held. “That’s why this commitment should be fulfilled and the parliamentary groups, after consultations with the President, should reach such a decision, in the ideal way,” PAS president and MP Igor Grosu stated after the consultations with President Maia Sandu, IPN reports.
According to him, beyond the snap elections, the management of the pandemic situation is now the key priority. Each state institution should make its contribution. Parliament can and should adopt, at the request of the Government or of a minister, the decisions needed to facilitate the purchase of vaccines or to allocate additional funds, including for compensating the people if they remain without work for a period.
“If the MPs come to terms, we can assume this responsibility and will come up with the necessary solutions. The management of the crisis is now the top priority. Later, depending on how we manage the situation, we will set snap elections and will get ready for them,” stated Igor Grosu.
The PAS considers the snap elections should be held in summer, given the recommendations of specialists. The number of infections deceases in this period and from logistic viewpoint it is also more advantageous.
Igor Grosu noted that in the consultations with Maia Sandu, they didn’t discuss an alternative candidate for the post of Prime Minister.
On March 16, President Maia Sandu is having consultations with the parliamentary groups. She met with the MPs of the Shor Party, Pro Moldova, the PDM, the PPPDA and the PAS and is yet to meet with the MPs of the PSRM. After the consultations, at 4:30pm, President Maia Sandu will make statements for the press.
