The Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) of the Republic of Moldova in the second round of the Romanian presidential election will definitely support Elena Lasconi and will campaign for her, said the party’s chairman Igor Grosu, quoted by IPN.
"On November 24, the presidential election was held in Romania. I am proud of the fact that Bessarabian Romanians came in such large numbers to vote – over 80,000 citizens in our country expressed their political opinion, a turnout that is almost double compared to the first round of the presidential election held in 2019. I am glad that more than 80% of them voted for pro-democratic and pro-European candidates, while the far right got a minuscule score. This proves that the Bessarabian Romanians care about the democratic and prosperous future of Romania and the Republic of Moldova," said Igor Grosu.
He noted that the runoff vote will involve Elena Lasconi, who ranked first in the Republic of Moldova, and Calin Georgescu, "a far-right candidate, who in the past expressed sympathies for neo-fascist groups, but also towards the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin".
"In the second round of the presidential election in Romania, the PAS will categorically support Elena Lasconi and will campaign for the pro-European candidate. Elena Lasconi is an upright, principled politician, who will fight for Romania's economic and democratic development within the EU and NATO. We are also confident that Elena Lasconi will support the Republic of Moldova and will provide all the necessary support to our country on our path of accession to the EU," said the PAS leader.
In his opinion, it is crucial that the Bessarabian Romanians mobilize more than ever to support Elena Lasconi. "We must protect Romania and the Republic of Moldova from extremists and politicians with neo-fascist sympathies, who admire dictators. In the second round of the presidential election in Romania, not only the fate of Romania, but also the fate of the Republic of Moldova will be decided. A prosperous Romania, a member of the EU and NATO, is absolutely essential for the European development of the Republic of Moldova. The choice at the presidential election in Romania is clearer than ever. In the runoff, we vote for Elena Lasconi," stated Igor Grosu.
The results of the presidential election in Romania show that Calin Georgescu ranked first with 22.94% of the vote, while Elena Lasconi gained 19.18% of the poll. The two candidates will contend for the presidency in the runoff vote.
