In placement centers, the children are subject to violence, sometimes by the educators, said councilor on behalf of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) Angela Munteanu-Pojoga. According to her, the children sometimes choose to go to the street or show their opposition by becoming involved in criminal activities. The same situation is also due to the lack of transparency in placement centers, IPN reports.
In the meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council, the councilor said that not many known what’s going on in these centers. She made reference to the case of use of violence against a child of the Chisinau-based Social Rehabilitation Center “Casa Gavroche”.
“The psychological disaster experienced by these children is huge and is irreparable given the devastating impact of the institutionalization of children, which can be felt for a long period of time. We must promote efficient child care systems that keep the families together whenever this is possible. We should equally support the development of alternative family-type care services,” stated Angela Munteanu-Pojoga.
She noted that the toleration of violence in placement centers threatens not only the chances of survival and health of children, but also their emotional well-being. The councilor requested the Division for the Protection of Children’s Rights to improve the child assistance and family reunification services.
