The Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) appealed to court the Commission for Exceptional Situations’ decision providing that the Moldovans from the diaspora should buy a health insurance policy when they return home. The party’s president Maia Sandu said the given decision is unconstitutional, IPN reports.
“We consider this decision is unconstitutional and today filed a challenge to the Appeals Court. There is no legal provision that bans the people from returning home. They are citizens of the Republic of Moldova and the authorities cannot use invented pretexts like this – that you cannot purchase a plane ticket if you do not have a health insurance policy. This is not legal, either you have insurance or not. We went to court to seek the annulment of this decision,” Maia Sandu stated in the program “Secrets of the Power” on Jurnal TV channel.
The politician called on the diaspora, especially those who still have financial resources, to remain in the countries where they are now.
“Those who can stay for several more weeks, but want to return home because they are scared, but have a salary and have where to live should better remain there for two-three weeks. We are just entering that storm that was witnessed by other states and our health system is much weaker. Those who can remain for two-three more weeks there should remain. Those flights should be organized for the people who cannot remain because they do not have money and a place to stay,” noted Maia Sandu.
The ex-Premier called on the authorities to organize more flights in the countries where there are many Moldovans in difficulty.
“The people experienced difficulties to get there and now have to go through the same to return home and this is dramatic. I don’t think someone imagined that we will reach such a moment. Those from the power should understand that many people do not have savings and lived on the salary only. If they lost the job they cannot remain there for three more months as they do not have these savings. For them, there is this urgent solution to organize flights authorized by the Government. The consulates, embassies should compile the lists according to priorities. It is hard when many people want to return, but those who can no longer stay there should be given priority.”
