The Party “Action and Solidarity”(PAS) and the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” (PPPDA) on December 17 submitted to the Central Election Commission the set of documents required for having the electoral bloc ACUM registered so as to take part in the parliamentary elections of February 24, 2019, IPN reports.
PPPDA leader Andrei Năstase said the bloc ACUM’s chance of winning the elections depends on the unity and involvement of all those interested in freeing the Republic of Moldova from captivity. All the laws and criteria for forming the bloc were strictly observed. “We expect the state institutions to make sure the upcoming parliamentary elections are held in accordance with the law, people’s expectations and the democratic spirit,” stated the politician.
PAS leader Maia Sandu voiced hope the CEC will obey the law throughout the electoral period so as to ensure free and fair election. “Even if we had not very positive experiences in the relations with this state body in the past, we are hopeful things will be different this time, everyone realizes the necessity and obligation of obeying the law and of respecting the people’s right to vote,” she noted.
Asked about the possibility of other forces joining the bloc ACUM, Maia Sandu said not much time remained until the electoral lists will be ready, but they yet remain open to those who propose candidates who are trusted by the people and who showed in time they are upright and honest.
CEC president Alina Russu said the Commission within seven days will examine the submitted documents and will present its decision concerning the registration of the electoral bloc in a public meeting.
The electoral blocs are formed and registered within 30 days of the start of the candidate registration period. The candidate registration period for the parliamentary elections of February 26 begins on December 26.
