Historian and publicist Gheorghe Cojocaru considers the components of the ACUM Bloc, the Action and Solidarity Party and the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform”, are further distancing themselves from each other. They more often rumor that the Democratic Party is experiencing a split and a more consistent majority is to yield to President Igor Dodon. In an interview for RFE/RL’s Moldovan Service, the historian said those from the Party of Socialists, who currently dominate Parliament, the Presidential Office, the Government and the capital city, seem to be the only ones who look to the future year with confidence, IPN reports.
Referring to a recent poll, Gheorghe Cojocaru said this shows that the leaders of three parties - the ACUM Bloc, the PDM and the PSRM – form a hierarchy in the electoral preferences. This implies that the decisive struggle in next year’s presidential elections, if nothing unordinary happens, will be given between the three and, ultimately, between Maia Sandu and Igor Dodon.
The historian believes surprises can come from anywhere, from the left or from the right, especially because new political, civic projects emerged towards the end of this year and particular tendencies appeared as regards the regrouping of the Romania-oriented forces. Time will show how sustainable these projects are.
According to Gheorghe Cojocaru, before next year’s presidential elections Maia Sandu and Andrei Năstase could compete for a seat in the single-member constituency Hâncești, even if it’s highly improbable that such an eventual competition will contribute to strengthening the relations between the two parties and between the three leaders. The force of the two parties and of the ACUM Bloc in general resides in unity, not in their “splendid” isolation or confrontation and the end of the year is an occasion for the politicians to leave the bad things behind and to begin the new year with only good things.
