Party of Socialists’ Youth Guard convenes first congress

The youth wing of the Party of Socialists – the Youth Guard – launched its activities by holding a national congress on December 11, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the organization.
The congress involved 348 delegates from the municipalities of Chisinau, Balti and Comrat and from 21 districts, including Orhei, Drochia, Briceni, Ungheni, Basarabeasca, Ceadir Lunga, Anenii Noi, Cahul, Cantemir, Edinet, Falesti, Glodeni, Leova, Singerei, Taraclia, and Vulcanesti.
The event was also attended by over 50 invitees, representatives of the Government, Parliament and the Youth Parliament of Moldova, civil society, youth organizations and the mass media.
The congress elected the organization’s management body – the National Council, which consists of 41 representatives from 21 districts. It is a collegial decisional body that does not have a chairman or deputy chairman. The Council will work out the policy, activity tactics and strategy of the Youth Guard, while its decisions will be definitive. It will also include a Coordination Council composed of nine persons who will head nine departments divided by areas of activity.
The congress also approved a Civic Manifesto, whereby the Youth Guard declared its support for the program of the Party of Socialists, and the organization’s work program for the next two years.
Lawmaker Igor Dodon welcomed the delegates taking part in the congress, saying that Moldova needs such a youth movement that wants to take an active part in improving the socioeconomic situation in the country and modernizing Moldova. According to him, the new organization will have a say in the nation’s history.
According to the communiqué, the organization now has 400 members. A part of them are former members of the Union of Communist Youth of Moldova, while others have never formed part of a political organization.
The Youth Guard intends to launch such campaigns that are of major interest to society as “Promotion of young specialists for modernizing Moldova” and “Promotion of a healthy lifestyle”.
