The Party “National Alternative Movement” (NAM) was constituted and Ion Ceban was elected chairman in the party’s first congress, IPN reports.

“It is responsibility towards my mates who are party mates already and towards the citizens and the country. We have clear commitments that are defined in the party’s program. The doctrine of the NAM party is a social-democratic doctrine of European type and we aim to bring Europe to our country and to make sure that each citizen feels changes to the better. The European integration should become a national idea. The political program stipulates that we aim to sign a pact similar to the Snagov Agreement with those who share the same views,” stated Ion Ceban. (The Snagov Agreement was signed in 1995 by the leaders of the parliamentary parties of Romania, which shows the political parties support the national stagey for preparing Romania’s accession to the European Union.)

All the documents for the official registration of the party are ready. “The team consists of a lot of my colleagues from the Chisinau City Hall with whom we started to bring about the change in Chisinau and we are sure that together with the same forces we can change things all over the country, in each locality of the Republic of Moldova,” stated the NAM leader.

Ion Ceban also said that the party will take part in the local elections and will have a candidate designed by the team for the presidential elections. “This will not be mandatorily my candidacy. The NAM will also compete in the parliamentary elections. We will gradually extend our activities so as to cover the whole country,” noted the chairman of the party.

The NAM now has a membership of about 2,000. The party’s National Council has 47 members.
