The World Bank is ready to support the Government’s efforts to implement the reform agenda aimed at ensuring economic growth and improving the people’s living standards, World Bank Country Manager Satu Kähkönen said in a meeting with Prime Minister Pavel Filip on October 2. The two officials discussed aspects of the partnership between the Government of Moldova and the WB and the prospects of good bilateral cooperation in the future, IPN reports, quoting the Government’s press service.

At the start of the meeting, Pavel Filip thanked the World Bank for the effort made during the last few years to help implement the Government’s reform agenda, saying the WB, alongside the International Monetary Fund and the European Commission, are the main institutional pillars in implementing Moldova’s European agenda. “Our government program is based on the Moldova – European Union Association Agreement. In this regard, your expertise is essential in implementing this. At the same time, the partnership that exists between the Republic of Moldova and the World Bank will enable us to adjust the economic program so that we have economic growth and ensure the people’s welfare,” stated the Premier.

Pavel Filip said he is confident that the current cooperation program with the WB will be implemented successfully, noting the importance of the Country Strategy for 2018-2021. This strategic document is based on three priorities, namely economic governance, service governance and development of competences. The three pillars correlate well with the Government’s key reforms. The Premier underlined the necessity of efficiently using the public money and foreign financial assistance. “By doing the Government reform, we aimed to strengthen the state institutions so as to eliminate the inefficient use of public funds,” stated Pavel Filip.
