The political parties that will respect the quota of at least 40% of women-candidates in single-member constituencies will benefit from a rise in the budget support of at least 10% of the sum allocated for the budgetary year to the given party and from a multiplication coefficient for each of the female candidates chosen in single-member consciences. Parliament on March 29 adopted a bill to this effect in the first reading, IPN reports.

One of the authors of the bill, Democratic MP Sergiu Sarbu said the mechanism for promoting women specifies the obligation to compile the lists of candidates for the parliamentary and local elections by observing the gender representation quota of 40%. Also, the female candidates will have to collect two times fewer signatures than the male candidates for being registered.

In order to put into practice the new provisions of the Election Code, it was proposed amending Article 27 of the Law on Political Parties: Financing of political parties from the state budget. Thus, 87% of the total allocations will be distributed to parties proportionally to the results achieved in the parliamentary and the local general elections. The parties that will respect the quota of at least 40% of female candidates in single-member consciences in the legislative elections will get an additional 10% of the allocated sum. 3% will be allotted to parties for each woman chosen as an MP in single-member consciences.

The percentage quota allocated from the state budget remained unchanged and cannot exceed 0.2% of the state budget revenues, except for incomes of a special purpose.
