The political parties didn’t sufficiently promote their candidates for the post of mayor general of Chisinau municipality, analyst Victor Ciobanu said in the program “Pahomi” on Realitatea TV channel, IPN reports.
According to Ciobanu, the parties should have presented their potential candidates for the Chisinau mayoralty a year ago so that these took part in public debates and different events. “A month is a too short period for promoting somebody for the post of mayor. The Chisinau mayoralty cannot be won overnight,” said the analyst.
He noted that Dorin Chirtoaca has the biggest chances of winning a new term in office even if his performance was not the best. “He enjoys advantages. Even if he is criticized, he is the most visible among the candidates. The advantage of the Party of Socialists’ candidate Zinaida Grecheanyi is the fact that she represents the main parliamentary opposition party. If this party’s candidate had been Igor Dodon, the chances of winning the mayoralty would have been greater. The other candidates, according to polls, are at a great distance from the two and these two will most probably compete in the second round of voting. Thus, the residents of Chisinau will again have to vote geopolitically. It happens because the parties didn’t promote their candidates enough,” said Ciobanu.
As to the future Chisinau Council, Ciobanu said it will be a very diverse one and will include representatives of several political segments. “I think the Liberals will have about 18 councilors, while the Socialists - about15. The other seats will be held by representatives of other parties. I’m afraid that the future Council will be less efficient than the previous one owing to disagreements,” he stated.
According to a recent poll concerning political preferences carried out by the Center for Sociological Investigations and Marketing CBS-AXA, if mayoral elections were held in Chisinau tomorrow, 33.7% of the respondents would vote for current mayor Dorin Chirtoaca, 24.5% - for Zinaida Grecheanyi, 5.1% for Oazu Nantoi, 3.5% for Serafim Urechean, 3.5% for Oleg Brega, 3.0% for Ilian Casu, 2.3% for Vasili Chirtoca, 1.0% for Monica Babuc, and 0.5% for Grigore Petrenco
