The political parties only pretend to promote the women in the local elections and the percentage of women in the Chisinau Municipal Council after the elections will be probably much lower than until now, the president of “Agapedia” Foundation Catinca Mardarovici, who heads the Women's Political Club “50/50”, said, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. According to Catinca Mardarovici, though not all the parties presented their lists of candidates for the post of councilor, the number of women in the provided lists is low. Moreover, the women close the lists. On the other hand, the women do not make effort to take leading positions in the lists. “The women should be more insistent and courageous so that the practice of women promotion in politics becomes rooted in Moldova,” said Catinca Mardarovici. The Democratic Party included two women among its first five candidates for seats on the Chisinau Council. The other parties have only by a woman among the top five candidates. The head of Women's Political Club “50/50” said that a large number of training projects and projects aimed at promoting the women in politics have been launched this year, but the results achieved are not very evident. The bill to impose a minimum women presence quota of 30% in parties' lists of candidates running in all the types of elections was approved by the Government on January 19 and is to be adopted by Parliament.
