For Moldova to continue its European road, the parties of the government coalition must show understanding and unity in the election campaign, Head of Parliament Igor Corman said in the program “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.

According to the Speaker, the success in the November 30 parliamentary elections depends on the cohesion of the parties of the government coalition, which are united by the idea of European integration.

“We must strengthen the people’s confidence in the parties of the Pro-European Coalition. In order to prevent those from the opposition from advancing, the ruling parties must have discussions to reach agreements concerning not only the election campaign, but also the subsequent period. Those who will have an aggressive and dirty campaign will suffer losses,” stated Igor Corman.

He underlined that they will not have a classical election campaign when each of the parties struggles selfishly by all ways to gain as many votes as possible because the people do not want aggression, but unity.

Igor Corman noted that a nonaggression pact is needed and the leaders of the ruling parties will have discussions on the issue soon.

Asked about a possible center-left post-election coalition, the Speaker said such a coalition is not possible. As to the possibility of Moldova joining NATO, Igor Corman said that Moldova is a neutral state and this fact is enshrined in the Constitution. Opinion polls show that the majority of people are for keeping the status of neutrality, while the agenda of NATO does not include such a matter. However, the country must cooperate with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
