The Solidarity March “Fara Frica”, mounted by the Information Center “Genderdoc-M” on May 21, took place amid a number of incidents. A group of Christians threw eggs and bags with water at the representatives of the LGBT community. To avoid altercations, the march participants were taken away by police buses, IPN reports.
“Last year the march involved 300 people, but now the figure was higher. I cannot say a concrete figure, but there were distributed about 400-500 T-shirts. People for whom the human rights count became involved in the event,” said “Genderdoc-M” Lobby and Advocacy Program Coordinator Angela Frolov.
“Today we walked five quarters of freedom. We showed that flowers can grow there where there was ice once and a rain of flowers can be there where there were eggs once,” stated “Genderdoc-M” executive director Anastasia Danilova.
On the other side, the group of Christians carried placards with the messages “Moldova is an Orthodox country” and “No to homosexual propaganda”.
Even if the road was blocked and the LGBT march could no longer continue, the organizers described the event as the largest one so far.
At the same time, on the initiative of President Igor Dodon, who expressed his disagreement with the organization of the LGBT march, a Family Festival was staged in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau in support of the values of the traditional family.
According to the deputy head of the General Police Inspectorate Gheorghe Cavcaliuc, 41 cultural-artistic street events were held in Moldova on May 21. Over 3,000 employees of the Ministry of the Interior were mobilized to maintain public order.
