Representatives of the participants in the Transnistrian conflict settlement talks in the 5+2 format will visit a migration checkpoint so as to see how it works. The visit will be paid at the initiative of the Government of Moldova so as to end the speculations that a border is set along the Nistru River by these checkpoints, IPN reports.

Prime Minister Iurie Leanca, after the meeting with the Transnistrian leader Yevgeny Shevchuk, said all the participants in the talks in the 5+2 format will be invited in several days. “The mass media of Transnistria is also invited to see how such a checkpoint works,” he stated.

Yevgeny Shevchuk said that Tiraspol is for ensuring the free movement of the people over the Nistru. He considers that maximum effort should be made for the registration procedures to be maximally facilitated so that the people do not meet with obstacles in movement.

The two officials were asked by the journalists if they discussed the political status of the Transnistrian region. Iurie Leanca and Yevgeny Shevchuk said that it was just the first contact and it is naïve to expect that all the problems will be solved at once.

Yevgeny Shevchuk said Tiraspol’s position on the political status is known and it is known that most of the misunderstandings between Chisinau and Tiraspol are namely over this issue. But this problem can be solved gradually, by solving first the most acute socioeconomic problems.

At the migration checkpoints, the foreigners will be able to register their stay in Moldova. The authorities explained that such checkpoints are designed to help the foreign citizens as they will not have to go to the several migration authorities existing in Moldova. The setting up of migration checkpoints is provided in the EU-Moldova Visa Liberalization Action Plan.
